SOMATICS & YOGA FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Somatic movement at Astute centers body-based tools for emotional regulation. Classes focus on noticing sensations, orienting to safety, completing stress cycles, and gently expanding your capacity to be present in your body without overwhelm.

Sessions might include grounding practices, rhythmic movement, shaking, gentle joint work, and longer pauses to feel into what your body is saying—always with choice and options to opt out.

Yoga at Astute

Our yoga classes weave in breath, accessible shapes, and mindful sequencing. You won’t find pressure to “perform”—instead, you’ll have space to explore what movement feels like from the inside out, with plenty of props and options.

  • Grounded, slower flows and restorative options
  • Poses adapted for chronic pain, fatigue, and different bodies
  • Invitations—not commands—around breath and movement
  • Great for folks returning to movement after time away

MAT PILATES FOR STRENGTH, ALIGNMENT & CORE SUPPORT

Mat Pilates uses bodyweight, small props, and controlled movement to build strength, stability, and mobility. We integrate a somatic lens—checking in with how movements feel, not just how they look—so your core work also supports emotional regulation and groundedness.

Classes may include breath-led core work, glute and hip strength, spinal mobility, and shoulder stabilization, with plenty of options for different energy levels and bodies.

  • Accessible sequencing with clear progressions and regressions
  • Focus on core support, posture, and joint health
  • Somatic check-ins woven throughout class
  • Options for lower-impact work on days you feel depleted

PRIVATE REFORMER PILATES

Reformer Pilates uses springs, straps, and a moving carriage to create a highly adaptable, full-body workout. In private sessions, we blend classical Pilates principles with a somatic, nervous-system aware approach so you can build strength without spiking stress.

Sessions can be tailored toward strength, mobility, postural support, or gentle recovery. You and your instructor check in each session to match the work to your current capacity—physically and emotionally.

  • 1:1 or duet sessions for individualized attention
  • Adjustable resistance to meet you where you are
  • Can be gentle and rehabilitative or more athletic and challenging
  • Great for core, hips, shoulders, and overall body awareness

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need experience to join somatics, yoga, or Pilates?

No. Our classes are intentionally designed for beginners, returning movers, and experienced practitioners who want a more nervous-system friendly approach. You’ll always be offered options and invited to listen to your body.

How does this connect to therapy?

Movement is not a replacement for therapy or medication, but somatic work, yoga, and Pilates can reinforce skills you’re building in session—like grounding, distress tolerance, and self-compassion. Our providers collaborate when clients request it.

What should I bring?

  • Comfortable clothing you can move and breathe in
  • Water bottle; mats and props are available on-site
  • Layers or socks if you tend to get cold when relaxing

If you have injuries, are pregnant, or have medical concerns, please check with your medical provider and let your instructor know before class so we can adjust appropriately and keep things safe.
