Karina Tovar MSW, LCSW is a Licensed Clinician in the state of Illinois. She received her Masters with a concentration in mental health from Loyola University Chicago and has completed the Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional training. Karina is committed to creating a safe space for BIPOC women, men, and couples to find healing, peace and lead a more fulfilling life. As a first generation Latina, Karina is extremely passionate about breaking mental health stigma and generational trauma. Karina speaks both English and Spanish. Her areas of interest include depression, anxiety, those seeking therapy services for the first time, trauma, family dynamics, cultural sensitivity, spirituality, work/life balance, life transitions, managing stress, couples counseling and relationships issues. Karina also works with couples by utilizing the Gottman method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to rebuild relationships experiencing communication issues, infidelity, sexual dysfunction, intimacy, interpersonal conflict, financial stress and crisis.
Karina offers a personalized and integrative approach when working with individuals and couples as she believes that every individual is uniquely and wonderfully made. Karina’s practice style includes examining thoughts, emotions, beliefs and behavior patterns; solution focused therapy; identifying and prioritizing life values; incorporating spirituality and cultural sensitivity; highlighting strengths; crisis intervention and focusing on breath work and mind-body-soul connection. With much empathy, Karina creates a safe, non-judgmental, therapeutic environment to ultimately help her clients get unstuck, work through roadblocks and live a more satisfying life.
